THE LONELINESS

EPIDEMIC

One in five Americans say they have nobody to talk to about important matters.

DID YOU KNOW?

22% of Black women experience more chronic loneliness
than women of other racial groups.

Black Women are disproportionately represented among "kinless" individuals (those without a partner, spouse, or biological children).

The effects of mental health challenges like anxiety and depression are compounded by systemic inequities—economic barriers, health disparities, and societal pressures that disproportionately impact Black women. These factors make it harder to build meaningful relationships and access mental health support, leaving many Black women to always feel alone–and chronic loneliness is a silent contributor to numerous physical and mental health issues; it reduces self-esteem and quality of life.

By creating spaces where Black women feel seen, supported, and valued, Free To Be Collective is breaking the vicious cycle of loneliness through intentional community building. Every event we host, every partnership we build, and every conversation we start are steps towards supporting Black women to thrive.

We are a safe space for Black women, femmes, woman-identifying people of all ages (18+), abilities, and aesthetics. We also welcome support from men, all racial identities, and other allies.

Free To Be Collective is here to bring you home to the community you’ve been searching for, where you can find fulfilling friendships and step into your creativity. If you have only one takeaway, let it be this: We welcome you here–as you are.

Here you are free to be:

  • Anxious

  • Socially awkward

  • Introverted

  • Extroverted

  • And anything you wanna be!
