I’ve met lots of down to earth Black Women that I’ve began to form bonds with so I’m grateful to be included in Free to Be.

〰️

I’m new to the Atlanta area and finding this group has made me feel less alone in the struggle to build community.

〰️

I'm not the best with words, but everyone is so willing to participate without prejudice. Nobody made me feel less than or out of place and I appreciate that. Very safe space.

Some of the benefits community members enjoy include:

Community Portal

Our internal portal serves as a one-stop-shop for our ladies to access exclusive features of Free to Be. Those features currently include: our blog, Discord server, private events calendar, merch store, and “Free to Be University”, a learning tool where we encourage our members to share their expertise on different topics.

Private Events

Every month we normally plan at least two privately hosted events for our members such as movie screenings, game nights, picnics, virtual classes and more.  Alongside those events we enjoy being the friend to host personal events that celebrate you, so that may look like a baby shower or birthday party. Being a part of F2B means you should always have someone cheering for you as you hit life’s milestones.

Emotional Support

Often Black Women are expected to only show up as their “best” selves in group settings to be accepted. Here we believe in creating spaces for Black Women without the expectation of perfection. That means allowing us to show up as our true selves every day, regardless of how we may be perceived. Our community is comprised of women that are neurodivergent, neurotypical, anxious, sometimes depressed, and tired. They’re also intelligent, warm, tenacious, intuitive, thoughtful, and all the good adjectives. By acknowledging that we are multifaceted and complex beings with so many emotional backgrounds and needs, we allow others to feel safe enough to be themselves.  We are here to support each other.

Intimate Friendships

Free to Be prioritizes quality over quantity in our approach to growth which means that we are incredibly strategic in how we welcome new members. Our formula of alternating public meet ups and private personal events help nourish authentic bonds through real connection. We love to celebrate each other, host each other, and just exist around each other. Getting back to the basics of human interaction helps us relate and connect. We encourage our people to create induvial goals of what they want their social circle to look like and build off that idea. We believe that if you’ve made even one sustainable friendship here, we’re doing something right.

Resources

At the start of the new year, we will be introducing Free to Be University, a library of courses on different in demand skills made by our members, for our members. There you can learn or teach about something that interests you while connecting with members of your community. We’re excited to add this feature to our list of programs to give back to Black Women.

Flexibility

Because Free to Be is curated to include Black Women of all abilities, so there is no penalty for not attending events or being active in the chat.

*Our admissions open November 1st and will close once we hit sixty new members or November 8th, whichever is met first.

Admissions for Fall have closed as of November 1st, but that doesn’t mean we can’t connect! Please join our mailing list to be notified of our next public meet up!
